In addition to his medical training, Dr. Easterling has always been very athletic as well. Here are some of the awards/honors he received for athletics during his education:

- McNeese State University School and Stadium Record 96-Yard Interception Return for a Touchdown
- McNeese State University Student Athlete of the Year 1990-1991
- GTE CoSIDA Football I st Team Academic All-American 1990
- Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week 1990
